What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is an easy, non-invasive way to quickly brighten your smile.

By applying peroxide-based gels to your teeth we can safely lighten the colour of your natural teeth, without any damage to the tooth surface.

If you are already happy with the position and shape of your teeth, then teeth whitening may be the simple solution you need to enhance your smile.

If there are other aspects of your smile you feel need improvement, tooth whitening can be completed in combination with additional dental treatments.

How is it carried out?

You will be provided with customised whitening ‘trays’ that precisely fit over your teeth, and you will be shown how to fill your trays correctly with whitening gel and instructed to wear the trays either for an hour or two during the day or overnight, depending on the product.

When will I see results?

Most patients will achieve a brighter smile in two weeks time, some patients will achieve this sooner, and some patients will need to whiten for longer.

Is it painful?

You may experience sensitivity during the whitening process. If this happens, symptoms can be alleviated by filling your trays with sensitive toothpaste, however, any sensitivity will return to normal shortly after finishing your whitening treatment.

Will my crowns/veneers/fillings change colour?

Teeth Whitening only works on the natural tooth surface, so if you have existing crowns, veneers or fillings that are visible in your smile, you may wish for these to be replaced after your whitening treatment to match your new brighter smile.

How long will my teeth stay white?

The longevity of whitening results vary between patients depending on lifestyle choices, such has dietary habits, dental hygiene care and smoking. Over time, periodic touch-ups will keep your smile looking its best.

Why can’t I just use an over-the-counter whitening product?

Tooth whitening can only safely and legally be carried out by a GDC registered Dentist. Over-the-counter products do not contain sufficient levels of peroxide to whiten teeth.
