What is a Dental Veneer?
A veneer is a thin tooth-coloured layer of material (composite or porcelain) that is placed onto the front surface of your tooth, they can be used to improve the shape, colour and position of your natural teeth.
Although veneers can be placed without any removal of tooth tissue, the best results are usually obtained from some minimal reduction of the underlying tooth surface.
What is the difference between composite and porcelain veneers?
Great results can be achieved with both materials, and they each have their own advantages.
Composite is a material that is affordable, typically only takes one visit to place and can be easily polished and adjusted to achieve the look you desire. However it can wear, chip and stain, and therefore requires more maintenance than porcelain.
Porcelain veneers take two visits to complete and are more expensive. However, they offer excellent aesthetics and are generally longer lasting. Being more durable restorations, they are less susceptible to staining and require less frequent interventions.
